GLP-1 Medication Status
April 11, 2025
The FDA notices regarding semaglutide and tirzepatide being removed from the "shortage" list are still in place. While some compounding pharmacies have discontinued supplying these medications, many have changed their formulations. Pharmacies that have not already been compounding the GLP-1 medication with another active ingredient are now doing so. Additional ingredients include vitamins or amino acids.
Puramint Pharmacy continues to make semaglutide with levo-carnitine, which they and we believe is not identical to the commercial semaglutide products. Wells Pharmacy is now making tirzepatide with glycine, which again, we believe is not equivalent to commercial tirzepatide.
We are also encouraged by the recent confirmation of Dr. Marty Makary to lead the FDA, because he is very experienced and supportive of compounded GLP-1 medications. We trust he will support this powerful option that is making a difference to so many.
So for now, things continue. If you are on tirzepatide, your next refill will be the new formulation, but overall, we are still able to continue to obtain these valuable medications. We will update you here if and when anything changes. Thank you for your understanding!
